So you want to be a poker TV star?  Meet the coolest girl in poker, Jamie Vela aka Poker B****.

A few years ago 2021 to be precise, I was in Hollywood Florida interviewing Rob & Michael Mizrachi to write their first book.  Rob told me his cool friend was flying in from LA and I should stay to meet her.  I was intrigued when he told me she’s the girl who can make you famous on the poker streams in LA and is best friends with Joe Hachem.  She is also a successful business owner of restaurants and bars, a investor of Rocco’s Weho in West Hollywood and co-founder of clothing line, 10 Deuce Clothing.  A Poker Player, Entrepreneur and Investor. How amazing is this lady!

“I guess, I would want people to know that I have worked with a lot of men over the years that took advantage of me being a woman.  One actually told me I would never make it in this business because I’m a girl . It only made me work harder.” – Jamie Vela

Fast forward a couple of months to Vegas WSOP, the first one back after Covid and Jamie threw a party for Rob’s book in Las Vegas.  We had a blast and Jamie was so much fun.  Whilst playing at the WSOP this summer I caught up with another famous poker TV lady, the gorgeous ‘Mamacita” aka Vanessa Alvarez Mejias.  Vanessa told me how much Jamie helped her in LA and even named her Mamacita.  I mean I knew Jamie was cool but I was really impressed by the way she helps and supports all the poker girls in LA.  They all love her!

Over the years I’ve watched Jamie put together amazing line ups at the infamous ‘Hustler Casino Live’ and ‘Bally Live Poker’, now filming at the Commerce Casino in Los Angeles.

Jamie herself is a popular regular on the streams with some impressive statistics.  She has appeared on the Hustler Live Stream 12 times since 2021, playing NLH and PLO for a net profit of $47,270.  On Bally Live Poker she has appeared 5 times, for a net profit of $4895 and twice on Poker at the Lodge, for a loss of $6115.

Since I’m still in Australia, I once again missed out on a seat at “Bally Live Poker” first PLO, all ladies high stakes stream, on this Thursday 24 October.  I cant wait to see the lineup Jamie puts together for this one.  So why would we here at WPN want you all to meet Jamie and not keep her to ourselves?  It’s simple,  we want you all to get a shot at the big time on TV!  Jamie is just to cool to keep under wraps and her work behind the scenes supporting and promoting women on these massive Hollywood streams needs to be shouted from the rooftops!  I caught up with Jamie with my 12 questions today.  What an amazing lady.  I know you will all love her as much as we do here at WPN!

12 Questions with Jamie Vela aka Poker B****

When did you start playing poker?

I started playing with my brothers around the age of 32. We would have family tournaments for $10 and my family finally got me to play one day and I won it.  The rest was history.

Who’s your favourite poker player/s?

My favorite poker player would have to be Joe Hachem.  He is my poker mentor and close friend. He always inspires me to learn more and work hard.

What do you do to improve your game?

I try to improve my game by not tilting so easily and try and play the players individually, by watching how they play their hands.

Do you have a study group or coach?

My coach would have to be Joe Hachem.  He made me play PLO when I didn’t even want to learn to play it.  Now it’s my favorite game.

What would be your ultimate poker goal/win?

My ultimate goal is to be the 1st female to win the World Series of Poker (WSOP)  Main Event.

How often do you play? Live and online?

I honestly never play online, I love meeting new people and making friends live.

How do you balance poker and your family life?

Balancing poker, dating and family at the same time is sometimes hard but I love the game so it’s all worth it.

What advice do you have for new ladies in poker?

My advice for new female poker players is to not be intimated by the men at the table.  They say poker is a man’s game but I love that so many more woman are playing and beating the guys.  Years ago you barely saw one lady at the table and now there’s 3 or 4.  I absolutely love it.

Tell us about your journey to be a TV star on the live streams?

I use to play a lot with Ryan Feldman before he started doing Live At The Bike.  He now does Hustler Casino Live.  One day I asked if I could host a ladies night on the show and he said yes and everyone loved it.  I think as a player I want to see games that everyone can relate to on the stream.  I’m sure the men would rather watch 9 women playing rather than 9 guys.  The show is great to show that women are playing more poker.

What do you look for when finding players for a live stream?

When I put any game together, I always look for players that I feel would entertain the viewers.

Do you have other hobbies, sports?

I love watching sports.  I’m a huge Raiders fan and I love cooking.  I’m trying to open a Pho Sports Bar, hopefully this year.

Anything else you want people to know about you?

I guess, I would want people to know that I have worked with a lot of men over the years that took advantage of me being a woman.  One actually told me I would never make it in this business because I’m a girl. It only made me work harder and prove to him and all the guys out there that have hated on me, for all these years that I’m here and not going anywhere.  I’m only going to get better.  Everything I do is to make my Momma proud.  I want her to know that she raised a strong independent woman, who will one day win a bracelet.  Never give up on yours dreams.  I tell myself this every morning when I wake up. I’m thankful for the family and friends who have supported me all these years.

Don’t miss the FIRST All Ladies PLO high stakes stream on this Thursday 24 October on ‘Bally Live Poker’,  Live from The Commerce Casino in Los Angeles.

We cant wait to watch Jamie this Thursday on Bally Live Poker,  live from the Commerce and wish all the ladies on this stream the very best.  To say I am jealous is an understatement, but my loss is another ladies gain and the entire world needs to know, the coolest lady in poker.  You can follow Jamie on her socials.
